Organization of ITI’s and scope of the mechanic diesel trade        (Related Theory for Exercise 1.1.01)                

Objectives: Toward the finish of this lesson you will have the knowledge to

  • state brief introduction about Industrial Training Institutes (ITI)
  • state about the organized structure of the Institute

Brief Introduction of Industrial Training Institute (ITIs): Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) have been established all over India  to train and skill the youth of the country in various fields.Modern industries is the backbone of the country economy, particularly in terms of giving skilled and talented labor supply. Keeping in view the Indian labor market and economy, the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) administers various types of vocational trade training in several industries. The National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) is an organization that oversees the delivery of vocational training programmes. Apprenticeship Training Scheme (ATS) and Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) are the two flagship programs of NCVT for the promotion of vocational training.

Organization Structure of the Institute: Starting from one year to three years, various engineering and non-engineering courses are taught in these institutes. The head of the institution is the Principal, below him is the Vice Principal (VP). Then there are foreman instructors and supervisor instructors, who are tasked with training the trainees. Each occupation has a different instructor. There are separate supervisor trainers for Workshop calculations, Engineering drawing, Employability skills / job requirements / job skills etc. For the operation of the store there is a Store Keeper. For administrative work there are office staff, superintendent, office assistant, employees. Where there is a hostel facility, there is a Hostel Superintendent (H.S.).

Mechanic Diesel Course is one of the most employable courses taught by ITIs across the country. The duration of the course is one year (2 semesters) duration. At the end of each semester/year  All India Trade Test (AITT) conducted.

Scope of the Mechanic Diesel course: Mechanic Diesel course under craftsmen training scheme (CTS) is one of the most employable course delivered throught ITIs across the nation. The duration of the course is one year (2 semester) duration.

Objective: By the end of this lesson you should have the following knowledge.

  • Importance of Mechanic Diesel Course training and employment opportunities
  • General Discipline in Industrial Training Institute.
  • Distinguish and Identify  the different tools equipment, raw materials, spares used by  Mechanic Diesel,
  • Practice to estimating, fitting, welding, sheet metal works, mechanical and electrical and hydraulic tools/equipments.
  • Diagnosis of fault and repairing, Various type of diesel engines repairing

Carrier Progress Pathways: Can join the apprenticeship training in different types of industries and often National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC)

Job Opportunities: Mechanic diesel can get job in Railways, Power industries, State/Central government organisation and PSUs like railway, airport, marine, military, can also employ in dealership of Diesel vehicles, Agricultural machinery, construction equipment machinery. mining machinery, trucks, bus, car, stationary engines, compressors, diesel generators, etc.

General discipline in the ITI :

  • Always be calm, courteous while in institute. Do not engage in unnecessary arguments with others, regarding your training matters or with the office.
  • Maintain ITI campus peaceful and safe by your good behaviour. Do not waste time on activities other than training.
  • Be punctual in Professional Skills and Professional Knowledge sessions. Obey disciplinary rule of ITIs. 
  • Do not be late to the theory practical and other classes. Do not unnecessarily interfere in other’s activities.
  • Do very attentive and listen to the lecture carefully during the theory classes and practical demonstration given by the training staff.
  • Give respect to your trainer and all other training staff, office staff and co-trainees. Be interested in all the training activities.
  • Do not make noise or be playful while undergoing training. Keep the institute premises neat and clean avoid poluting the environment.
  • Do not take away any material from the institute which does not belong to you. Always attend the institute well dressed and good physical appearance.
  • Be regular to attend the training without fail and avoid absent from the theory or practical classes for simple reasons.
  • Prepare well before writing a test/examination. Avoid any malpractice during the test/examination.
  • Write your theory and practical records regularly and submit them on time for correction. Take care of your safet
