Introduction

Welcome! In this lesson, you will become familiar with the history behind the use of the UAV. You will also be aware of the UAS development’s present state. You will also be introduced to the various UAV/UAS classifications based on their weight, size, and intended uses.

At the end of this lesson, you will have a working knowledge about how the unmanned aerial missions/vehicle started, the current status and the classes of the UAV/UAS.

Objectives

You should be able to:

  • Describe the historical evolution of the UAV/UAS;
  • Recognize the defense contribution to the UAV/UAS development;
  • Recognize the civilian contribution to the UAV/UAS development;
  • Understand the current state of the UAV/UAS development;
  • Describe the objectives beyond the use of the UAV/UAS;
  • Classify different UAV/UAS according to their make and characteristics;
    describe the different classes of the UAS.
